On Sept. 12, 2001 Donato Panico loaded up a food truck and drove to Ground Zero to feed search and rescue workers. He cooked from the mobile catering truck for 10 days at the World Trade Center site.
Nearly 15 years after, he continues to want to show his appreciation again for those first responders and those that have served our country. So he makes sandwiches and turkeys. Lots of them. The Heros 4 Our Heroes Foundation gives away more than 3,000 3-foot-heroes and more than 200 turkeys to firefighters, police and veterans on Long Island and New York City every year with the help of friends, partners, and his employees at Panico’s Community Market in Smithtown.
“Now that I know how many volunteers I have, let’s see what we can do!” Donato Panico
