About Heros 4 Our Heroes
"We are our brothers keeper feeding our heroes in their time of need, because we never walked a mile in their shoes..."
On September 11th, 2001 Donato Panico loaded up his refrigerated catering truck and grill and drove into NYC, getting as close as he could to ground zero. His intentions, plain and simple, were to serve food and water to our heroic, hungry and thirsty first responders. He ended up grilling burgers, hot dogs and chicken and making fresh hero sandwiches for 12 straight days. He only slept a for minutes a night and did not take any money. He felt that this was the least he could do for his country.
Fast forward 14 years to September of 2015. Donato was becoming increasingly frustrated with the way our Veterans were being treated. He got together with a couple of lifelong friends and they decided to do something about it to show their appreciation and love to these courageous people. They launched Heros 4 Our Heroes, a non-profit organization dedicated to feeding our heroes every day of the year.
We also have a yearly event every September 11th to thank our firefighters, police officers and first responders and to raise awareness of our charity to help the veterans. Our first 9/11 event since our founding, it was a tremendous success and over 750 hero sandwiches were donated.
In June of 2016, expecting an overwhelming response to our 2nd annual 9/11 event we began reaching out to the community and local businesses for donations in order to feed as many of our heroes as possible. With your help we will be able to donate many more heroes this year.
We are currently in the process of developing several other programs all aimed at feeding our veterans every day of the year. We ask those of you who would like to make a difference and show your appreciation to make a donation of any amount to our organization.
Our goal for every year is to consistently add to our hero sandwiches made on September 11th and the unveiling of at least 1 other major program geared at feeding our veterans. Watch for the roll out of a major program this fall that we believe will be an incredible success!
